Recovery Isn't Selfish, It's Stewardship
Sep 18, 2026Hey. Waking up tired after a full night of sleep isn't rare, and if you've been asking yourself why you're so tired all the time, you're not imagining it. But this post isn't really about sleep. It's about why rest has felt like guilt for most of my life, and the quiet shift that finally changed that.
The surgery date that changed everything
A few weeks ago, a surgery date landed on my calendar. My hamstring is getting reattached to the bone, and instead of panicking, something unexpected happened. Calm.
Turns out there's a term for what I'd already been doing: prehab. Getting your body as strong and recovered as possible before an operation, because what you walk in with is what you have to work with coming out. Sleep. Hydration. A nervous system that isn't maxed out. Not extras tacked onto a real routine. The whole foundation.
That's when it clicked. Rest was never selfish. It's stewardship, caring well for what's been entrusted to me so it can carry me through what's next. Grace instead of guilt.
The four gifts I couldn't skip this month
This ties directly back to everything covered on recovery this month:
- Morning sunlight within thirty minutes of waking, to reset your circadian rhythm
- Hydration with electrolytes, not just plain water, so your cells can actually use it
- Oxytocin through real connection, a hug, a laugh, a conversation with the phone put away
- A bedtime reverse engineered from your wake time instead of a random lights-out
None of it felt urgent until a surgeon put a date on the calendar. Suddenly recovery wasn't optional, it was preparation.
Truth is, it was never optional. Some seasons just make grace obvious.
You don't need a surgery date
Waiting for a crisis to make rest non-negotiable is a hard way to learn this. Consider this the easier version of that lesson.
Pick one of the four above. Not all four, just one. Build the habit on purpose, before life makes the decision for you.
You're not broken. You're becoming. That's what becoming S.U.R.E. actually looks like. Not a finish line. A body that's Sexy, Unstoppable, Resilient, and Energetic because it's been cared for well, not just patched up in a crisis.
Reply and tell me which one you're trying this week.

I am not a doctor. This is what has worked for the ladies I coach and for me.
